In this beautiful region you will find different activities, such as horseback riding, canopy tours, mountain biking, and animal watching.

Probably the main attraction of this region is the active Arenal volcano, which spews lava and ashes. It can be seen from a safe distance. Also in the Arenal area you will find the man made, Lake Arenal, the second largest lake in Central America. People from all over the world come to practice wind surf at the Lake Arenal, since the wind can reach velocities of up to 72 km per hour (approximately 45 m/h). The volcano and its surrounding areas are a national park, and it is possible to explore it through its fascinating trails.

Tabacón River is a thermal water source that offers the tourist therapeutic and relaxing baths, with an incredible view to the Arenal volcano.
Fortuna CRwonders Located in the cloudy summits of the Tilarán mountain range you can find the town of Monteverde. It is well known for its biological reserve of the same name. This reserve protects species such as the quetzal and the bellbird. You can also visit the butterfly gardens.

The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge is located in the Guatuso plains. It is one of the most important protected areas of the region. It protects ecosystems like lakes, swamps and wetlands. These natural environments are a true oasis for aquatic birds, reptiles and mammals, and therefore, an important place for all wildlife lovers.

The Northern Region is characterized by its agricultural productivity and for its dairy farms and by-products, which then gives origin to many other economic activities. Fairs are held in most of the towns, bull fights and cattle auctions are also characteristic of the region.
